Darkness to Light
How wonderful that God turns darkness into light. We have just ‘celebrated’ Halloween, where these days the emphasis for children is on ghouls and monsters, instead of the original idea of spirits entering heaven. We now turn the terrible treachery of the ‘Gunpowder’ plot into a firework display, lighting up the dark November sky. And then of course, we have Christmas to look forward to. God brings light in the depths of winter.
We can go on throughout the year to show how God continues to remind us of light overcoming darkness, good overcoming evil. Even in our own lives God has been at work transforming us into the people we are today. We may have been through dark times in our life but looking back we can see how God was there with us helping us through, even though at the time we may not have realized that God was there with us.
We see it in nature, how plants die and their seeds bring new life in glorious colours. Each day we witness the sun rising and bringing light and then descending so that darkness prevails for a time before the sun rises again. Our own skin cells die and get replaced with new skin cells; our whole bodies are gradually being regenerated. God has created a wonderful system that keeps our bodies healthy ready to face the rigors of the day.
God has a plan for our life and that plan is that he wants to bless us. We see it most clearly in children. If you are a mother or father, or a grandmother or grandfather you want your children to be happy and be fulfilled. You think you know the best way but the children don’t always agree, they go their own way and sometimes get hurt. You do not abandon them; you keep loving them and continue to want the best for them. Sometimes they will take your advice and sometimes they won’t. You do not love them any less. And sadly, sometimes they get hurt and you want to be there for them to take away their pain. God loves us in the same we except that God is perfect and never makes mistakes. He can help us far beyond any of our loved ones. God can bring love and forgiveness into the most desperate situations; he can bring healing and wholeness and most of all he can give us eternal life.
God Bless
